The statistics paint a grim picture.
According to the World Resources Institute, more than 80 percent of the Earth’s natural forests already have been destroyed. UP to 90 percent of West Africa’s coastal rain forests have disappeared since 1900 while Brazil and Indonesia, which contain the world’s two largest surviving regions of rain forests, are being stripped at an alarming rate by logging, fires, land-clearing for agriculture, cattle grazing and timber products such as paper. (National Geographic, 2008).
Unfortunately, modern business adds to these problems of deforestation by producing millions of paper based documents on a daily basis, through their printing and copying equipment. In a new initiative, Berwicks Office Technology has estimated the tree equivalent of the yearly total of all pages produced through equipment supplied and maintained by us and has engaged Carbon Neutral to plant replacement trees. This will allow you to feel assured you are doing your bit for the environment in helping reverse deforestation which in turn lessons your carbon footprint.
About Carbon Neutral
It is anticipated that the trees and shrubs will likely provide varying benefits, including: wind breaks, reducing soil erosion, improving biodiversity, sequestering carbon, creating habitat for native fauna and improving the overall sustainability of regional Australia. Legal protection will be placed over sites and carbon will not be sold from these sites. Up to 40% shrub and understorey species may be included to restore the natural vegetation.
